Pentium 4 / Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA775/1156 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results
listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise
over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

Intel processors
vary in thermal design power between models, so FrostyTech tests heatsinks with
two thermal loads that represent the upper limit of each CPU family, 150W and
85W.
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel
LGA775/1155/1156 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test
platform, the 133mm tall Glacialtech Igloo 5620 PWM heatsink was able to
maintain a test temperature of 27.1°C over ambient at full fan speed, with
51.0dBA noise output.
Reducing
the 92mm PWM fan speed to 800RPM saw test temperatures increase to 38.5°C over
ambient; a change of 11.4°C.
In the
next round of testing an 85W heat load was applied. In this scenario, and at
full fan speed once again, the Glacialtech Igloo 5620 PWM heatsink kept test
temperatures to a very good 16.5°C over ambient. A reduction in fan speed from
2300RPM to 800RPM saw the synthetic CPU interface die rise to 22.7°C over
ambient (noise @ 30.8 dBA).
Ultimately, the Glacialtech Igloo 5620 PWM is an average
heatsink when faced with 125W and 150W TDP processors. A much better thermal
solution would be Glacialtech's Igloo H58 heatsink, or any number of the
other heatsinks in the above reference charts.
The
two-heatpipe design of the Igloo 5620 PWM is nonetheless quite suitable with
sub-85W TDP processors, as the reference chart indicates.
