Pentium 4 / Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA775/1156 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results
listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise
over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

Intel
processors vary in power output so FrostyTech tests each heatsink with two

SD1484 heatsink maintains an average temperature result of 23.4°C over ambient
at stock fan speed(49.7dBA noise). After decreasing the speed of heatsinks' 140mm fan to
800RPM, CPU die temperature increases to 27.8°C over ambient for the same heat
load. Noise output falls to 37.7 dBA.
Xigmatek's Prime SD1484 heatsink was then tested with an
85W heat load. Under this test scenario the Prime SD1484 cooler was able to
maintain a good temperature result of 14.2°C over ambient at stock fan speed,
17.5°C over ambient at reduced fan speed.
The bottom line, Xigmatek's Prime SD1484 heatsink offers
good but average cooling performance on both AMD and Intel synthetic thermal test platforms at stock
fan speed. The potential for better results is hampered by a convex base that
decreases the surface area of heatsink in direct contact with the
CPU.
On the
noise front, sound output from the single 140mm PWM fan is moderate and
shouldn't be too noticeable in most environments. The Prime SD1484 can
accommodate a second fan on the back of the cooling fins, but adding another fan
isn't necessary as the limiting factor here is the undesirable dooming of the
exposed heatpipes, likely caused by the imprecise base sanding operation.
