Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA775/1156 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results
listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise
over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

Intel processors vary in
power output so FrostyTech tests each heatsink with two thermal loads that
represent the upper limits of current CPU families; 150W and 85W. With a 150W heat load applied by the
Intel LGA775/1155/1156 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Thermaltake Jing
heatsink maintained a good temperature result of 19.3°C over ambient at stock
fan speed (50.3dBA noise).
After
slowing the heatsinks' twin 128mm fans to their minimum speed of 800RPM, CPU die
test temperature increased modestly to 21.5°C over ambient for the same 150W
heat load. Noise output fell to 43.7 dBA, so as we saw with the AMD platform the
Jing really is suited to quiet, low fan speed operation.
Thermaltake's Jing heatsink
was next tested with an 85W heat load. Under these test conditions the 161mm
tall cooler was able to maintain a very good temperature result of 11.6°C over
ambient at stock fan speed and 12.9°C over ambient at reduced fan speed.
While the Thermaltake Jing heatsink performed quite well
on both the Intel and AMD reference charts at stock fan speed, the heatsink is
best run with its front and rear fans rotating at 800RPM. The rise in
temperature is minimal (~2.5C°C) but the savings in sound output are
substantive. That being said, there are a dozen or two heatsinks in the
Frostytech reference charts which offer both lower temperatures and less noise
output that you ought to consider.
