the heat output from intel processors varies, so frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of existing cpu families; 150w and 85w. with a 150w heat load applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Akasa Revo heatsink maintains a temperature result of 31.0°C over ambient temperature at stock fan speed (44.5dBA noise). After reducing the 92mm PWM fan speed to 600RPM, noise output falls to 33.3dBA while CPU die temp. increases to a satisfactory, but poor 37.4°C over ambient.

Akasa's Revo heatsink was then tested with an 85W heat load; akin to an Intel Core 2 Duo or Core i5 processor. With an 85W heat load applied, the Revo heatsink fared a bit better, managing a temperature result of 20.3°C over ambient at stock fan speed and 24.0°C over ambient at reduced fan speed.

Looking at the results for the Akasa Revo heatsink on both Intel and AMD synthetic test platforms it's clear that although the cooler is extremely novel and very quiet, it offers somewhat average thermal performance results at best. Part of the challenge for NoiseLimit, the original developer of this heatsink technology (and now out of business), is achieving sufficient cooling under the limiting conditions of a smallish 86x91mm fluid-to-air heat exchanger.

Size restrictions and the choice to use a 92mm fan in place of a 120mm fan make the Akasa Revo heatsink compact and easily installed on most computer motherboards. The thermal results are not as kind, suggesting that the heat exchanger just isn't sufficiently large to allow the Loop Thermosyphon to dispose of the heat fast enough when stressed at levels of 125W or 150W.

The results for this heatsink on the 85W heat load are entirely fine, so it could be useful with sub-85W processors at the lowest fan speed for ultra quiet cooling in relatively compact PC systems. Beyond that, on the whole the Akasa Revo is a technically interesting loop thermosyphon heatsink based on a fascinating two phase R134a fluorocarbon working fluid that seems to be hobbled by a small heat exchanger and fan. Compared to standard heatpipe-based air cooled heatsinks, the Revo is simply out gunned.
