The heat output from Intel processors varies, so Frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of existing CPU families; 150W and 85W.

With a 150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775/1156 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the DeepCool Ice Matrix 600 heatsink maintained a good 19.6°C over ambient temperature at stock fan speed (49.3dBA noise).

Once the 140mm PWM fan speed was reduced to 900RPM, noise levels fell to 41.9 dBA while CPU die temperature increased moderately to 25.3°C over ambient. Evidently, the DeepCool Ice Matrix 600 heatsink is better tuned to Intel processor cooling at full fan speed than the nearly identical Deepcool Ice Matrix 400 model.

DeepCool's Ice Matrix 600 heatsink was then tested with an 85W heat load; akin to an Intel Core 2 Duo or Core i5 processor. The integrated heatspreader on Intel Core i5 CPUs is the same size as the CPU test die used for the LGA775 synthetic thermal test platform so the 85W results can be considered indicative of socket LGA1155/1156 heatsink performance.

With an 85W heat load applied, DeepCool's Ice Matrix 600 heatsink had no difficulty maintaining a temperature of 11.8°C over ambient at stock fan speed and 14.6°C over ambient at reduced fan speed.

Having a somewhat larger fin stack and an extra dose of heatpipes has made the Ice Matrix 600 heatsink generally better suited to cooling than its slightly smaller Ice Matrix 400 model, also from Deepcool. Beyond that though, there's no getting away from the fact that Deepcool's Ice Matrix 600 is going up against a lot of heatsink competition...

Frostytech faced the DeepCool Ice Matrix 600 heatsink against 230 different Intel/AMD heatsinks, and of those at least 66 CPU coolers posted cooler thermal results. Where noise output is taken into consideration that list of alternate heatsinks shrinks to about 25 different models.
