Core Extreme / Pentium D & Quad Core class heatsinks tested at
150W
Intel Core i5 / Core i3 / Core 2 Duo /
Pentium 4 / Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA775/1156 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results
listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise
over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

Frostytech tests
with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of existing Intel CPU
families.
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775/1156 version of FrostyTech's
synthetic thermal test platform first, the CoolAge X120TF heatsink maintained a
very good temperature result of 18.3°C over ambient at full fan speed.
Coolage's
X120TF heatsink was then tested with an 85W heat load; akin to a Core i5
processor. In this test the X120TF easily maintained a temperature of 11.0°C
over ambient at full fan speed (2000RPM / 53.0 dBA).
While the CoolAge X120TF heatsink performed very well in
both Intel and AMD thermal tests, the use of a relatively loud 38x120mm fan
caused noise levels to hover around the 53dBA mark.
One of the issues with this heatsink that Coolage have corrected in a
prototype exhibited at Computex 2010, is to space the fins a little further
apart so pressure drop is decreased. In other words, more widely spaced fins
enable lower speed and lower noise 120mm fans to be used.
As is stands the CoolAge X120TF heatsink offers users
very good thermal performance, however it's ultimately unable to rise to the top
of the pack on either noise or thermal fronts in the configuration Frostytech
received for testing. For example, the Zalman CNPS9900 MAX heatsink is about as audible at
full speed but offers significantly cooler temperature results.
