Pentium D / Extreme Edition & Quad Core class heatsinks tested
at 150W
Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 /
Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient
temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test

Heat output from
socket 775 Intel processors varies, so Frostytech tests with two thermal values
that represent the upper limits of existing CPU families, 150W and
85W.
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775 version of FrostyTech's synthetic
thermal test platform, the Glacialtech Igloo 5760 PWM heatsink maintains an
average result of 28.3°C over ambient (50.3dBA noise) at default fan speed. With
its 92mm fan speed decreased from 2000RPM to 1100RPM the Igloo 5760 PWM cooler
manages a satisfactory result of 38.4°C over ambient, for the same 150W heat
load.
Glacialtech's Igloo 5760 PWM heatsink was then tested with
an 85W heat load; akin to an Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel Core i5 processor. The
integrated heatspreader on Intel Core i5 CPUs is the same size as the CPU test
die used on Frostytech's Intel synthetic thermal test platform so the 85W
results can be considered indicative of LGA1156 heatsink performance.
In the 85W heat load test the Glacialtech Igloo 5760 PWM
heatsink had no difficulties maintaining the synthetic CPU die temperature at a
fairly average 17.4°C over ambient at full fan speed. At reduced fan speeds the
heatsink maintained temperatures in a slightly lower then average range of
24.9°C over ambient.
From the test results we've seen in this review it's
clear that Glacialtech's Igloo 5760 PWM heatsink is capable of
handling 150W heat loads quite well for its size (average on grand scale of the
reference chart), so long as the fan operates at full speed. When fan speed
falls the efficiency of this heatsink design falls with it.
Of the 48 other 88mm tall (or less) heatsink models
Frostytech has tested, the Glacialtech Igloo 5760 PWM has very good standing.
For the 150W heat load test, the results range from 21.3-73.8°C over ambient and
the Igloo 5760PWM sits at a comfortable 28.3°C over ambient - one of the ten
heatsinks to post under 30.0C over ambient. Ultimately that positions the
Glacialtech Igloo 5670PWM as one of the better, compact, sub-88mm tall heatsinks
on the market right now. The only other comparable heatsinks are the
Coolermaster Vortex Plus, Auras SLC-747 and Evercool HPK-10025EA.
