Intel
Pentium D / Extreme Edition & Quad Core class heatsinks tested
at 150W
Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 /
Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient
temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test

The heat output from Intel processors
varies, so Frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the upper
limits of existing CPU families.
With a
150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775 version of FrostyTech's synthetic
thermal test platform first, the SilenX EFZ-120HA4 heatsink maintains a very
good temperature result of 20.3°C over ambient (48.7dBA noise) at full fan
speed.
After
reducing fan speed from 2000RPM to 800RPM, CPU die temperatures increase
moderately to 28.2°C over ambient. Noise levels fall to 36.1 dBA.
The SilenX EFZ-120HA4
heatsink was next tested on the Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic thermal test
platform with an 85W heat load, akin to an LGA1156 socket Core i5/i3 processor.
Under these test conditions the SilenX heatsink had no problem maintaining
a CPU die temperature of 12.5°C at stock fan speed and 16.8°C at reduced fan
speed.
SilenX have a well performing, exposed heatpipe
base heatsink here. As with the original, the little rubber feet used to
hold the fan in position can disengage and fall out or become torn during
the stretching needed just to install them. Ultimately, the EFZ-120HA4 doesn't
run quite as cool as the original 3Rsystem's Iceage 120 Boss II model,
but it is quieter for the roughly 4°C warmer operation. In the quieter
fan tests the SilenX EFZ-120HA4 heatsink ran head-to-head with the
other similarly designed heatsinks mentioned at the top of this
review.
