the heat output from intel processors varies, so frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of existing cpu families. with a 150w heat load applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform first, the SilenX EFZ-80HA2 heatsink manages a temperature result of 30.2°C over ambient (40.6dBA noise) at full fan speed.

It's a good temperature result in the grand scheme of the results chart, but puts the EFZ-80HA2 into about the 25th for heatsinks measuring 112mm in height or shorter.

Let's put things from that sub-set into better scale; the Coolermaster GeminII S is the top heatsink with a height less than 112mm as it posts a temperature result of 21.3°C over ambient for the same test parameters. Where noise is considered, the SilenX EFZ-80HA2 falls closely behind the Scythe Zipang and Zipang 2 heatsinks, though each of these heatsinks also run about 5-6°C cooler than the EFZ-80HA2.

After reducing the 80mm fan speed to 12000RPM, CPU die temperatures increased to 41.0°C over ambient - a range considered poor - while noise output fell to 37.4dBA.

The SilenX EFZ-80HA2 heatsink was then tested on the Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic thermal test platform with an 85W heat load. Under these test conditions the heatsink handled much better. At full fan speed the EFZ-80HA2 heatsink maintained a CPU die temperature of 22.4°C at stock fan speed and 25.1°C at reduced fan speed.

Bottom line, with it's little 80mm fan spinning at a full 2400RPM the SilenX EFZ-80HA2 heatsink offers generally satisfactory results on high-power processors for its size class (sub-112mm height). Where the EFZ-80HA2 heatsink really falls into its own is on 85W/65W/45W TDP processors where CPU heat output is much better matched to its diminutive size and compact cooling fins.

To recap...

As low profile heatsinks go there are a couple dozen heatsinks to choose from of equivalent height that yield cooler temperature results. Where low profile heatsinks of similar width and depth are concerned there is only the nPower NPH-775-1 heatsink. The 3Rsystem Iceage 80 Prima Mini and Akasa AK-975Cu heatsink run somewhat hotter but do fit similar hight/width/depth constraints if you're unable to find the nPowertek thermal solution.
