Core Extreme / Pentium D & Quad Core class heatsinks tested
at 150W
Intel Core i5 / Core 2 Duo / Pentium
4 / Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the
LGA775/1156 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results
listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise
over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on

the heat
output from intel processors varies, so frostytech tests with two thermal values
that represent the upper limits of existing cpu families.
With a 150W heat load
applied by the Intel LGA775 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test
platform, the Glacialtech Igloo 5751 PWM heatsink maintains a temperature result
of 25.5°C over ambient (50.6dBA noise) at full fan speed.
After the
lower fan speed was reduced to 800RPM, CPU die temperatures rose to a
satisfactory 44.4°C over ambient while noise output fell to 38.5dBA. Not great,
but sufficient to keep the a CPU operational.
The Igloo
5751 PWM heatsink was then tested with an 85W heat load, and in this scenario
maintained a test result of 14.2°C over ambient temperature at full fan speed,
and 27.7°C with the lower fan operating at reduced fan speed.
Based on these test results, it's pretty clear that this
heatsink performs best when the intake airflow and exhaust airflow are
relatively balanced.
When the Glacialtech Igloo 5751PWM heatsink is
operating at a nearly balanced situation 1400RPM vs. 1800RPM the heatsink
performs fairly well, certainly better than the original Igloo 5750PWM heatsink
model. When airflow is unbalanced, 1400RPM vs. 800RPM, the Igloo 5751PWM
heatsink just isn't that effective and the poor thermal results are the
consequence.
