at 150W
Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 /
Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient

the heat
output from intel processors varies, so frostytech tests with two thermal values
that represent the upper limits of existing cpu families. with a 150w heat load
applied by the intel lga775 version of
frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform first, the Zaward Vapor 120
heatsink maintained an excellent temperature of 15.6°C over ambient (51.6dBA
noise) at full fan speed.
The speed
of the 120mm PWM fan on the Zaward Vapor 120 was then reduced from 2000RPM to a
quiet 500RPM, decreasing noise levels to below 30 dBA. In this scenario the
Vapor 120 heatsink held temperatures at a steady 33.9°C over ambient. A large
increase in the copper CPU die temperature for certain, but not unsatisfactory
for CPU cooling.
The
Zaward Vapor 120 heatsink 
was next tested on
the Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic thermal test platform with an 85W heat load;
akin to a Core 2 Duo or Core i5 processor. The integrated heatspreader on an
Intel Core i5 processor is the same size as the CPU test die used for the LGA775
synthetic thermal test platform, so the 85W result can be considered indicative
of LGA1156 heatsink performance qualities.
In this
test the Zaward Vapor 120 heatsink maintained a nice 9.7°C rise over ambient
temperature at default fan speed, and 20.1°C at its reduced fan speed.
The nice
thing about a heatsink like the Zaward Vapor 120 is that you get excellent
performance at stock fan speeds, without a big boxy heatsink footprint. This
tower cooler is based on a nearly identical framework as Xigmatek's HDT-S1283, and performs very similarly at
stock fan speeds too. The fin geometry is entirely different of course. The
punctured dimples Zaward apply to every other fin is an interesting adaptation
that we'd like to see a few more heatsink manufacturers expand upon as well.
As a low
noise cooler the Vapor 120 heatsink works well, but it's not the strong point of
this cooler as the results clearly indicate. Bottom line, recommended for high performance cooling
at full fan speed.
