Intel
Pentium D / Extreme Edition & Quad Core class heatsinks tested
at 150W
Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 /
Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient
temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test

Frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the
upper limits of existing Intel CPU families. With a 150W heat load applied by
the Intel LGA775 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform first,
the Thermaltake SpinQ VT heatsink maintains a very good temperature of 21.6°C
over ambient (50.1dBA noise) at full fan speed.
Under the
same 150W heat load but reduced fan speed, the noise output from the SpinQ VT
heatsink levels off too 40.9dBA while temperatures rise modestly
to 24.2°C.
Thermaltake's SpinQ VT heatsink was then tested
with an 85W heat load; akin to a Core 2 Duo processor. In this test the SpinQ VT
easily maintained a temperature of 12.7°C over ambient at 1600RPM, and 14.6°C
with the fan at 1000RPM.
Ultimately, while the Thermaltake SpinQ VT heatsink is a good heatsink and a
nice improvement over the original SpinQ, it still doesn't stand out from
the crowd or dominate in thermal performance or low noise operation.
Given that Thermaltake is one of the most widely
recognized heatsink brands in PC shops, it might be time for the company to
focus more on raw performance than just cranking out just another
economical, but average performing, visually appealing product....
When it comes to CPU cooling, appearance is nothing in
the grand scheme of things.
