frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of existing intel cpu families. with a 150w heat load applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform first, the Zaward Gyre Flow heatsink maintains a good result of 34.4°C over ambient (52.7dBA noise) at FULL fan speed. Normally we'd expect this sort of result from the heatsink while operating at a reduced fan speed for quiet operation.
Clearly, in spite of its unique air flow technology the Gyre is having a difficult time living up to its promises. It's exposed heatpipe framework is very similar to several Xigmatek heatsinks, but those CPU coolers are clearly at an advantage in this synthetic thermal test. Zaward's Gyre Flow heatsink was next tested with an 85W heat load; akin to an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. In this test the Gyre heatsink maintained a temperature of 21.3°C over ambient at 2000RPM, and 28.7°C with the fan at 1000RPM. Based on the AMD and Intel thermal test results it's evident that the Zaward Gyre Flow heatsink isn't able to separate itself from the crowd thermally or acoustically. The heatsink is completely satisfactory for cooling either processor family, but given the exposed heatpipe base and 8mm diameter heatpipes similar to so many good tower heatsinks, we were certainly expecting results to be far better. The airflow technique utilized by Zaward is certainly interesting, but there are plenty of other heatsinks which are more compact, quieter at full fan speed and will yield lower CPU temperatures.
