Heat output from socket 775 Intel processors varies, so Frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of existing CPU families.

With a 150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Thermolab BARAM heatsink maintains an excellent temperature of just 17.3°C over ambient (53.0dBA noise) at default fan speed. This is with the (official) 1500RPM Mechatronics G1225S12B fan used in previous fan-absent heatsink reviews. It's an excellent result, and it firmly places the BARAM heatsink well within the Top 5 Intel coolers, where temperatures between each contender vary about 1 degree!

Thermolab's BARAM heatsink was next tested with an 85W heat load; akin to a Core 2 Duo processor. In this test the BARAM held steady at 10.5°C over ambient with the Mechatronics G1225S12B fan, again spinning at 1500RPM (53dBA).

(Note: These two values constitute the official test results for all future comparisons.)

Okay, and now for the fun part! After resetting the synthetic test platform back to 150W, the Thermolab BARAM heatsink was outfitted with the 120mm AGA12025F121 fan spinning at its default speed of 2000RPM.

Under this scenario the Thermolab BARAM heatsink broke records with a very low rise over ambient temperature of just 15.1°C at stock speed! The fan was then dialed down to a quiet 1000RPM, and the BARAM maintained a result of 21.7°C over ambient. Only two other heatsinks have posted lower temperatures with comparable 35dBA noise outputs, the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and Scythe Infinity SCINF-1000.

On the 85W heat load with the 120mm AGA12025F121 fan mounted, the Thermolab BARAM yielded results of 10.3°C at full fan speed, and 11.7°C at reduced fan speed (50.1 dBA and 35.0 dBA respectively). Considering test results like these, it's pretty clear that a slightly faster fan can greatly influence some tower heatsinks. If you're looking for an edge, a good quick (and quiet) fan is definitely part of the equation.

Ultimately, and drawing conclusions from the official Mechatronics G1225S12B fan test results ONLY, it's pretty clear that Thermolab's BARAM heatsink offers up excellent cooling capability on both AMD and Intel platforms. Recommended.
