Heat output from socket 775 Intel processors varies, so Frostytech tests with two thermal values that represent the upper limits of existing CPU families. With a 150W heat load applied by the Intel LGA775 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal test platform first, the Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283 heatsink maintains a temperature of 17.9°C over ambient (49.6dBA noise) at full fan speed. This is an excellent result for an Intel heatsink, and thrusts the Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283 heatsink into the Top 5 Chart! For the next test the 120mm fan speed was reduced from 2200RPM to 1000RPM, decreasing noise levels to a very quiet 37.6dBA. In this scenario the Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283 heatsink held steady at 23.4°C over ambient - better than most Intel heatsinks are able to achieve at full fan speed, but not quite as low as the un-plated HDT-S1283 model. Xigmatek's Dark Knight S1283 heatsink was then tested on the Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic thermal test platform with an 85W heat load; akin to a Core 2 Duo processor. In this test the Dark Knight S1283 maintained a nice 11.0°C rise over ambient temperature at default fan speed, and 15.3°C at its reduced fan speed. In comparison to the originally Xigmatek HDT-S1283 model, the Dark Knight S1283 heatsink is nearly identical but a little less able at slower fan speeds. The dark nickel plating adds another layer for heat to cross, so it can slightly impede cooling. Still, Xigmatek's Dark Knight S1283 heatsink operates very well at full fan speed on both AMD and Intel test platforms, and would be a worthy heatsink for high performance cooling.
