Pentium D / Extreme Edition & Quad Core class heatsinks tested
at 150W
Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 /
Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W
Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient
temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test

the heat
output from intel processors varies, so frostytech tests with two thermal values
that represent the upper limits of existing cpu families. with a 150w heat load
applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test
platform, the Thermaltake MaxOrb EX heatsink maintains a good temperature of
24.0°C over ambient. Noise output is 56.5dBA. At a reduced fan speed of 1300RPM
the temperature result sticks to 27.6°C over ambient while noise output
decreases to 45.9 dBA.
For the
next round of testing the heat load was decreased to 85W. The Thermaltake MaxOrb
EX heatsink yielded a result at full speed and reduced speed of 13.9°C and
15.5°C over ambient, respectively.
Priced
around $65 bucks, the Thermaltake MaxOrb EX heatsink is a pretty average
performer, with slightly elevated noise levels. Given its short stature, you
will see good temperature results for that 95mm height. If your PC can
accommodate a tower heatsink there are plenty of other heatsink models to pick
from which can offer less noise, lower temperatures and cost a little less
money.
