Heatsink Test Results
Intel
Pentium D / Extreme Edition & Quad Core class heatsinks tested
at 150W Intel Core 2 Duo / Pentium 4 /
Celeron class heatsinks tested at 85W Results based on readings from a 30x30mm copper
interface die with 150W and 85W heat loads applied on the LGA775
version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature results listed for
each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient
temperatures at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test

The heat output
from Intel processors varies, so Frostytech tests with two thermal values that
represent the upper limits of existing CPU families.
With a 150W
heat load applied by the Intel LGA775 version of FrostyTech's synthetic thermal
test platform, the Vantec Aeroflow FX 120 heatsink maintains a low temperature
of 18.3°C over ambient (for 54.2 dBA noise) at full fan speed. This is an
excellent result for any cooler, and thrusts the Vantec Aeroflow FX 120 into the
Top 10
Intel heatsinks category!
The speed
of the 120mm PWM fan on the Vantec Aeroflow FX 120 was then reduced from 2200RPM
to 1600RPM, decreasing noise levels to a moderately quiet 47.9dBA. In this
scenario the Vantec Aeroflow FX 120 holds steady at 20.5°C over ambient.
The Frostytech Mrk.II synthetic thermal test platform was
then set to output an 85W heat load; akin to a Core 2 Duo processor, and the Vantec
Aeroflow FX 120 heatsink re-tested. In this scenario the Vantec Aeroflow FX 120
maintains an 11.8°C rise over ambient temperature at default fan speed, and
12.6°C at its reduced fan speed.
I think
that answers the question of the day; is the Aeroflow Fx 120 any good? Yes!
Vantec's Aeroflow FX 120 heatsink is a great performance oriented processor
cooling solution, priced around $50 bucks. To be fair, the results you've seen
here aren't that surprising since the Aeroflow FX 120 is, for all extents and
purposes, an OEM version of the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 heatsink. And yet, while noise levels
at full speed are little elevated above the sweet spot for today's heatsinks,
the Aeroflow FX 120 doesn't give much up when fan speed is decreased.
Recommended for high performance Intel and AMD processor cooling.
