The Heatsink
Fan:
The 92x92x25mm fan rotates at a speed of 1600RPM and doesn't generate all that much noise.
The Glacialtech Igloo 5710 Silent draws power from a standard
3-pin motherboard fan header, and supports RPM monitoring. Thanks to its
Intel push-to-click through motherboard retention clips the Igloo 5710 installs in a jiffy. |
 |
Heatsink Exposed: With the fan removed it is easier to see the
basic structure of the Igloo 5710 Silent heatsink. The large 88mm
tall collection of aluminum cooling fins does much of the work to
keep the processor below running cool. The small heatsink soldered to
the base helps a little, but if the heatpipes are conducting heat as they
should this area should not get very warm. |
 |
Heatsink Top: Looking
from the top down, all we see are the tops of the three heatpipes poking
through the aluminum fan shroud. The Igloo 5710 Silent itself is about 79mm thick. To
keep the fan wire from getting tangled in adjacent devices or the heatsink fan, the fan
power cable is wrapped in a thin sleeve. |
 |
Heatsink Side
A: The Glacialtech Igloo 5710 Silent heatsink
stands 126mm tall, and its cooling fins are encased behind a solid aluminum fan shroud. The frame supports a
92mm fan on either side, and helps direct airflow through the fins of the cooler.
Three U-shapped 6mm diameter diameter heatpipes run through the body of the heatsink.
The Igloo 5710 Silent
is shown with LGA775 mounting brackets attached. A set of AMD K8 mounting brackets can
also be installed so the heatsink will work with either platform. |
 |
Heatsink Side B: From the rear,
the Glacialtech Igloo 5710 Silent heatsink is all cooling fin (88x99mm), with
a small extruded heatsink attached to the heatpipes at the base.
Each aluminum cooling fin is 0.28mm thick and spaced 1.5mm from the next. The small extruded heatsink has 12mm
long fins. There are screw holes to attach a second 92mm fan
on the rear of the Igloo 5710 Silent if
you wish (though only one fan is supplied). |
 |
Heatsink Base: The base of the Glacialtech Igloo 5710 Silent heatsink measures 32.5x34mm in area. The nickel plated copper base
plate ships with a pre-applied patch of thermal compound. The base is 2mm thick, and is soldered directly to the
body of the copper and the three heatpipes. Base finish is very smooth,
and surface roughness is 8 microinches or better. The base is more or less flat,
but very slightly concave in the center. |
