The Heatsink
Fan: The 92x92x25mm Coolermaster fan spins at 1800RPM and generates about
53 dBA noise according to Frostytech's real world sound measurements. A standard 3-pin motherboard
header provides power. The nine bladed impeller doesn't have a
wire fan grill, so just make sure errant wires stay away
from the fan blades. The hyper TX2 heatsink itself is 128mm tall. |

Heatsink Frame: With the fan and fan shroud removed, it's evident
that the Hyper TX2 heatsink is a pretty model. There are about 30 thin
aluminum fins and three 6mm diameter copper heatpipes running through
them. Each fin is 0.38mm thick and spaced 1.75mm apart. The copper base is
on 4.4mm thick at most, 1.5mm at least (where the heatpipes intersect).
The socket 775 clips are the standard Intel push-to-clip variety. |

Heatsink Top: From the top of the Coolermaster Hyper TX2, the scale
of the fan scoop is evident. This directs about half the exhaust air
coming out of the heatsink down towards adjacent motherboard components. The fan frame has lateral slits
which have been known to reduce turbulence noise. |

Heatsink Side
A: The scoop
on the Coolermaster Hyper TX2 heatsink sticks 44mm from the rear. Like the first row
of aluminum fins, it starts 38mm above the base for good capacitor
clearance. The AMD K8 clip is tool free, working with the standard socket 939/AM2 heatsink retention frame.
Rotating the cam lever applies clamping force on the processor below. The 1.5mm slits
in the fan frame are visible from this angle as well. |

Heatsink Side B: From the rear we
can see the plastic scoop which helps direct about half the airflow
coming from the Coolermaster Hyper TX2 down towards motherboard level components. The
upper portion, consisting of about 53mm worth of cooling fin is unaffected.

Heatsink Base: The base of the Coolermaster Hyper TX2 heatsink is fabricated from a
block of copper which is soldered to the three copper heatpipes. The base has a
sanded surface finish with a surface roughness of ~32 microinches. The 40x40mm copper pad is generally flat
in both axis and ships from the factory with a pre-applied
patch of thermal compound. The hyper TX2 heatsink is shown with both AMD and
