FrostyTech Mk.II
Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
AMD Athlon64 / FX / X2 &
Sempron class heatsinks Results
based on readings from a 38x38mm copper interface die with 125W heat
load on the K8 version of the Mk.II Test Platform. Temperature
results listed for each heatsink were calculated by determining the
rise over ambient temperatures at time of test. Information on
Frostytech's test methodology is available
here. |

125w thermal test
(°c) |
noise level (dba) |
*heatsinks are ranked according
to the 125w thermal test results column (rise over ambient temp.). low
temperatures with low noise levels are considered best. for reference
heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high speed (12v) fan test
result is included in the comparison sheet; more detailed results reside
in each specific heatsink review. |
with a 125w heat load applied by the amd k8 version of the
frostytech synthetic thermal test platform, the rosewill rcx-z3 heatsink yielded a rise
above ambient temperature result of 26.5°c. this was accomplished at its stock
fan speed of 3000rpm (58.6 dba), which is a little noisy to
be practical. compared to some of the other reference heatsinks the rcx-z3 is
a bit underwhelming.
when we
manually force the 92mm pwm fan to spin down to about 1200rpm, the heatsink is able
maintain a temperature of 31.5°c above ambient on the amd k8 test platform. noise levels
fall to 45.6dba which is much better. still, in both cases this rosewill
heatsink only performs at a good to average level.
as usual, we'll hold off on our final judgement of the Rosewill
RCX-Z3 heatsink until the socket 775 test results come in next...
