The
Heatsink Fan: The Thermaltake Jungle 512 heatsink
is built around a 32mm thick 92mm diameter PWM fan that spins at
2300-3600RPM - sucking back just over 1.0Amp at full speed! The
red seven-bladed impeller is controlled via the BIOS when connected to
a 4-pin PWM fan header. It is also backwards compatible
with standard 3-pin fan power connectors, though the Jungle 512 will default
to 2300RPM - which is still pretty healthy and offers good thermal performance. The
fan uses a thermistor located just below the
motor hub to monitor temperatures and this influences fan speed as well.
There is a 10mm plenum between the fan
blades and the top of the cooling fins. A fan
guard is recommended for this heatsink, though none is
included.

Heatsink Top: With the fan support structure removed,
the common design of Thermaltake Jungle 512 heatsink is visible.
The central copper core is just 6mm thick at the very bottom - which
is way off the average of 13mm that other heatsinks of this same design employ. The
remaining 33mm deep cavity opens up so there is 6mm of copper along either edge. The
aluminum 'donut' measures 90mm in diameter, though each side is comprised
of 3.3mm of solid aluminum and ~24mm of bifurcated aluminum cooling fin.
Each fin is 1.2mm thick at the base and spaced 1.5mm apart. The fin tips are
just 0.4mm thick, and spaced 2.0mm from the next. |

Heatsink
Side A: The aluminum portion of the Thermaltake Jungle 512
heatsink stands exactly 40mm tall, with the heatsink having an overall
height of 81mm. The plastic clips lock directly into the 4mm motherboard
mounting holes which surround the LGA775 processor socket. To release the
heatsink from the board, the upper portion of the clip is rotated 90
degrees and pulled upwards. The heatsink then pulls free of the board.

Heatsink Side B: The fan support frame is attached to the body of
the heatsink with screws, and during testing no vibrations were noticed. Air is
exhausted outwards from the cooling fins, where it can then be used to cool
adjacent board-mounted components. Many Intel socket 775 motherboards make use of this
air now to cool VRM components, and even the northbridge chipsets.

Heatsink Base: The copper base of the
Thermaltake Jungle 512 heatsink is 30mm in diameter where it makes contact
with the processor integrated heatspreader (IHS). The copper is machined relatively
flat, though there is a slight dome at the very center. Surface
roughness is on the order of ~16 microinches, which is considered very good.
The rigid mounting frame compresses the CPU in its LGA775 socket, force
is created by the many springy electrical contacts.
