with a 125w heat load applied by the frostytech synthetic thermal test platform, the Apack ZeroTherm BTF80 heatsink yields a very nice rise above ambient temperature of just 21.3°C, with 51.9 dBA noise generated at its stock fan speed.
with a 150w heat load applied by the intel lga775 version of frostytech's synthetic thermal test platform, the Apack Zerotherm BTF80 yields a rise above ambient temperature of 22.8°C with 51.9dBA. The CPU equivalents of this test would be an Intel Pentium D / Extreme Edition or Core 2 Quad class chip. With an 85W heat load, temperatures drop to 13.9°C over ambient. The anthropomorphic shape of the Apack ZeroTherm BTF80's fins belies a rather clever balance between air pressure from the fan and depth of aluminum (ergo back pressure) which the air need pass over... where there is the least amount of airflow from the fan there is correspondingly a reduced amount of aluminum fin requiring cooling. For example, behind the tips of the fan blades there is 60mm worth of aluminum fin for air to cool. Whereas just behind the fan motor there is no aluminum whatsoever. By comparison, at the inside edge of the impeller blades the aluminum fins are 40mm thick - airflow at this location is not as strong as at the outer tips, but much higher than behind the motor. The 92mm fan employs PWM to dynamically scale fan speed with compatible motherboards, but for the purposes of these tests the fan was run at its full speed of 2500RPM. The Apack ZeroTherm BTF80 is a remarkably good heatsink for socket AM2 or 939 AMD processors. At first glance it's just a heatsink that takes the form of a butterfly, yet in spite of these first impressions the thermal test results indicate that the Apack ZeroTherm BTF80 heatsink, just like the BTF90 model, deliver's great cooling performance as well.
