FrostyTech.com Mk.II Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm copper interface die with 125W heat load on the Mk.II Test Platform. Thermal Test values for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperature at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

125w thermal test (°c) noise level (dba)
*heatsinks are ranked according to the 125w thermal test results column (rise over ambient temp.). low temperatures with low noise levels are considered best. for reference heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more detailed results reside in each specific heatsink review.

The FrostyTech Mk.II platform stresses each K8-class heatsink with 125W of heat, and in this thermal test the Verax Quattro 1 performs satisfactorily at the stock fan speeds. A rise above ambient temperature of 36.9°C is not particularly impressive, but the 30.9dBA noise it generates is. This temperature is within processor operating ranges, so the trade off has clearly been made.

With the speed of both CAIRdB fans at the full 3600RPM, the Quattro 1 heatsink actually comes in about mid-way on this heatsink reference list. The fans generate an audible 55.4 dBA noise, but rise above ambient temperature drops to a more acceptable 30.7°C. Yet by way of comparison, the Noctua NH-U12 heatsink yields results which are both quieter than the Verax Quattro 1 at full speed, and significantly cooler.

Once again Verax has demonstrated that it places quiet ahead of thermal considerations, though not unreasonably so. When operating at the slowest fan speed the Verax Quattro 1 is certainly among the quietest of heatsinks we've tested, though not everyone will be satisfied with the resultant thermal levels. Ultimately, I think it's safe to say that as long the PC is well ventilated, the Quattro 1 will offer sufficient ultra-quiet cooling.

The Verax Quattro is available from VeraxFans.com.
