The FrostyTech Mk.II thermal test platform stresses both socket 939 and socket AM2 class K8 heatsinks with 125W of heat, and once equilibrium is reached we note the rise in temperature (2nd column from the right) above that of the ambient temp. So in effect what we're doing is leveling the playing field and allowing comparisons between each heatsink in this reference list. The Cooljag SFO-Q socket AM2 / 939 produces an excellent rise above ambient temperature at the fastest fan speed of 22.2°C, with just 60.6 dBA noise. When the Cooljag SFO-Q's fan speed drops to 2800RPM, the socket AM2 heatsink posts results about 14°C warmer. At its quietest fan speed setting, the SFO-Q has a rise above ambient temperature result of 36.5°C, with 47.4 dBA noise - nice! At its highest fan speed of 5000RPM, the Cooljag SFO-Q is an excellent heatsink although it is far too loud. Given that there is no direct way a user can influence the speed of the fan, it is unlikely that the Cooljag SFO-Q will operate in this mode very often. However, should case temperatures rise, it is comforting to know the heatsink has the capabilities of reducing temperatures substantially. At its lowest fan speed, this heatsink is not nearly as good as the Zalman CNPS9500 AM2 or AVC Z7U7414001 heatsinks - both of which are fully AM2 compatible. At reduced fan speeds the AVC model produces about the same degree of noise, but the Zalman CNPS9500 AM2 is much quieter. Bottom line, as a workstation or 3U server heatsink the Cooljag SFO-Q is a capable unit that excels when temperatures rise and an automatic response is desired. In this respect the heatsink is an "install it, and forget it" kind of cooler. It will do the job, but when it comes to low noise applications there are more suitable heatsinks for the socket AM2 platform to choose from.
