Mk.II Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm
copper interface die with 125W heat load on the Mk.II Test Platform.
Thermal Test values for each heatsink were calculated by determining
the rise over ambient temperature at time of test. Information on
Frostytech's test methodology is available
here. |

noise level (dba) |
*heatsinks are
ranked according to the 125w thermal test results column (rise over
ambient temp.). low temperatures with low noise levels are considered
best. for reference heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high
speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more
detailed results reside in each specific heatsink
review. |
the frostytech synthetic thermal test results clearly place the Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 heatsink in a mainstream
position. The heatsink handles the temperatures well, but isn't a
high-performance thermal solution by any stretch.
With a 125W heat
load applied, the Alpine 64's rise above ambient temperature of 30.5°C is
pretty nice considering noise levels remained at 43.9 dBA.
Compared to the mainstream Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra TC heatsink, the Alpine 64 maintains
temperatures about 7°C lower, and without as much noise. The AC Freezer 64 Pro bests the Alpine 64 by about the same
margin, so in some respects this
extruded aluminum heatsink is worthy of note for keeping pace with copper and heatpipe
behemoths.
The Arctic Cooling Alpine 64
heatsink is considered satisfactory for the socket 754/939/940 AMD Athlon64
processors, and it compares very well to the stock Ajigo MF043-044 AMD Athlon64 reference heatsink. Bottom line,
the Alpine 64 is a great little inexpensive K8 heatsink that runs nice and
quiet.
