The
Heatsink Fan: The seven
bladed fan is 25x110x110mm in size and features slots in the frame to
reduce noise levels. With the included controller, the fan speed is
adjustable from 500-2200RPM. The fan draws power from a standard 4-pin motherboard fan
header that supports PWM. It will work on 3-pin fan headers as well. A
separate Molex connector powers the three sets of bright blue LEDs. From
the top, the 'V8" logo plate which the user is responsible for
installing is visible. |

Heatsink Top:
Without the plastic
shroud, we get a better sense of how the EKL V8 heatsink is
assembled. The side fin sections each consist of 33 aluminum
fins that are 0.2mm thick, and spaced 1.5m apart. The four copper heatpipes
are 6mm in diameter, and extend about 115mm out from the base. The
central fin section is comprised of 19 0.3mm thick fins spaced 1.0mm apart. The copper
base is over 10mm thick where it mounts to the processor, but only
33mm in diameter. |
|
Heatsink Side A: The clear plastic casing and fan frame translate into a very unique
glowing blue heatsink when the LEDs are turned on. The EKL V8 heatsink
is a bit bulky, measuring about 158mm wide at the farthest point.
|
|
Heatsink Side B: The 110mm fan is mounted a good distance in front of the cooling fins
of the heatsink, creating a plenum in the fan shroud. The four heatpipes
are centered over where the heatsink makes contact with the processor. |
|
Heatsink Side C: From the rear we can see the large
clearance around each of the heatsink fin sections. There is more
than 10mm of space above the aluminum fins for air to flow. |
|
Heatsink Base: The base plate is entirely nickel-plated copper,
with a raised 33mm diameter
(5mm high) section to contact the CPU. The mounting holes around the circular
pad are for the socket 478/775 retention plates. At either end of the base are the K8 mounting points. The portion that contacts the CPU is
very flat, with a surface roughness of about 32
microinches. |
