The backside of the aluminum heatspreader shows the thermal pads and thermal goo used to transfer heat from the CPU core and L2 cache away from the processor. The naked Athlon will now sit before you ready for just about any type of cooling rig. So long as the spring clips holding the aluminum heat spreader were not damaged during their removal the plate can be reinstalled if necessary.

Having you Athlon with nothing on it, makes it ideal for attaching to devices such as the MCW2000, which has a copper plate connecting the CPU core, and cache to the cooling apparatus. And of course a GFD can always be inserted now that the cover of the Athlon has been removed.
