FrostyTech.com Mk.II Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm copper interface die with 125W heat load on the Mk.II Test Platform. Thermal Test values for each heatsink were calculated by determining the rise over ambient temperature at time of test. Information on Frostytech's test methodology is available here.

125w thermal test (°c) noise level (dba)
*heatsinks are ranked according to the 125w thermal test results column (rise over ambient temp.). low temperatures with low noise levels are considered best. for reference heatsinks with variable-speed fans, only the high speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more detailed results reside in each specific heatsink review.

the frostytech synthetic thermal test results clearly place the arctic cooling freezer 64 pro heatsink in a very good light. the heatsink handles itself very well, producing a rise above ambient temperature of 23.2°c on our test platform with a 125w heat load. the heatsink maintains a very competitive noise level of 50.9 dba, which puts it on about equal footing with the Zalman CNPS9500 LED which is less than a degree warmer, and decibel quieter.

Compared to the more mainstream Arctic Cooling Silencer 64 Ultra TC heatsink, the Freezer 64 Pro maintains temperatures about 14°C lower, and with less noise output.

What isn't so great about Arctic Cooling's design are those little posts on the black plastic cap which the retention clip must lock into. It's easy to misalign the clip just slightly, impacting how firmly the Freezer 64 Pro is mounted to the processor. In fact, this very issue caused us to initially list the Freezer 64 Pro with a 26.9°C rise above ambient temperature.

The Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro is a great lower-noise AMD Athlon64 socket 754/939/940 heatsink, but there are a couple other heatsinks which one-up it. If noise is not a consideration for your system, there are a half a dozen other heatsinks to select from which yield much lower temperatures, but with drastically higher noise output. The 2200RPM Arctic Cooling fan doesn't generate too much noise, but it is not a silent solution when running at stock speeds either. We've mentioned our concerns about the lifespan of the rubber dualaxial fan mounts, but without firm information either way on that question there really is no reason not to enjoy the benefits that the Freezer 64 Pro heatsink potentially has to offer.
