Mk.II Synthetic Thermal Heatsink Test Results
Results based on readings from a 38x38mm
copper interface die with 125W heat load on the Mk.II Test Platform.
Thermal Test values for each heatsink were calculated by determining
the rise over ambient temperature at time of test. Information on

speed (12v) fan test result is included in the comparison sheet; more

In its lower noise setting, the Thermaltake Venus 12 maintained
a rise above ambient temperature result of 39.4°C. It fared pretty
well acoustically to the adjacent heatsinks in this reference list.
With it's
finger-chopping fan speed dialed all the way up to 5500RPM, the noisy beast
performed exceptionally well, with a rise above ambient temperature of just
21.7°C. A sub-35°C result on this reference list is considered good, and Thermaltake's Venus 12 posted
a sub-25°C result which is excellent... if we ignore the 68.1dBA
noise generated.
This heatsink utilizes a very simple copper fin arrangement that is
effective with high airflow. The Venus 12's performance is largely due to the
high-powered fan, and there are certainly alternatives which offer similar
temperatures at drastically lower noise levels. Irregardless, the Thermaltake Venus 12 has what it takes to keep temperatures low (at 70 dBA), and operate
quietly; just not concurrently.
