Information not expressly stated in the Synthetic Rise / Ambient Temperature Test Results lists concerns the pre-applied thermal pad (removed for testing), the number of fans on each heatsink, general fan noise and clip force observations, and ambient temperature measurements. All values are quoted in degrees Celsius. FrostyTech's Thermal Test Reports are separated by the socket formfactor, not processor name.

The synthetic rise / ambient temperature (°C) test results indicate that the Spire SPA49B0 is a basic middle of the road Socket A/462 heatsink. It offers average temperature results, and is thus fine for use in any mainstream AMD AthlonXP application where lower noise is preferred. The Spire Verticool is not a silent heatsink, in spite of its complex design, but does the job satisfactorily and without being very loud.

On the 100W temperature test the Spire Verticool achieves a temperature of 54.7 C, so the choice to purchase this cooler really comes down to pricing. The reference list illustrates that there are a large assortment of heatsinks from different vendors that will cool better, but be sure to note each heatsinks noise levels first before quickly discounting the Spire SPA49B0.
