Abstract: It's no surprise that heatsink makers like Vantec are still creating newer Socket A heatsinks for the mass markets.

You'll note that I've dropped out the actual test figures, and so FrostyTech is only showing the final rise above ambient temperature results in heatsink reviews from now on. With the number of heatsinks we have reviewed, the list was simply getting too long; and given the choice of keeping one long list of comparative heatsink results, or two shorter ones, we chose the former.

Information not expressly stated anymore concerns the pre-applied thermal pad (we remove this for testing any way), the number of fans, general fan noise and clip force observations, and ambient temperature.

As always, Frosty's Synthetic Temperature Test results for the Socket A AthlonXP platform are grouped according to the results of the 100W test die.

Like most things, mainstream heatsinks are the most common of coolers (and that isn't a bad thing either). They are the most affordable, and offer good performance for what they cost consumers. The Vantec VA4-7245 is not a high-end Socket A heatsink, and it is not the quietest Socket A cooler we have ever tested either. It is inexpensive, it does offer reasonably good cooling for moderate overclocking situations, and it is bound to be available just about everywhere. Vantec's coolers are sold all over the place, and that is often what decides which heatsink is successful, and which isn't.

While the Vantec VA4-7245 will provide years of good cooling for non-overclocked PCs, overclockers will probably find it limiting. Apart from that, we were left wishing that Vantec had used a slightly quieter fan, and in so doing appealed to the low-noise cooling movement a little more. Other than that, the test data speaks for itself; nice thermals, and well made.
