Even though the SLK-900A and recently reviewed
SK-7 were equipped with the same 80mm fan, we can instantly see that the
SLK-900A is achieving better temperature results already. Let's jump ahead and find out how the SLK-900A
performed thermally.

With
the same fans, and similar body size you might expect the Thermalright SLK-900A and SK-7 to perform very close to one another, but it's
clear from the final results that the SLK-900A is simply the better heatsink.
Even with the large 80mm fan that was selected
for its noise characteristics, it is clear that the Thermalright SLK-900A is
still on the cusp of being labeled a performance heatsink with respect to the
100W small die thermal test. With a higher speed fan it would most
certainly climb to the very top of this reference list.
Ultimately, the Thermalright
SLK-900A is a very good heatsink, and one I would recommend for AthlonXP users looking
for a little extra from their system. While it is possible to use a very large and
high speed fan to further increase the thermal performance results, say for overclocking, I don't see
that as a really feasible option outside the test bench.
After a few minutes of gaming, or overclocking, I'm
sure most of us would be apt to shut down the PC and swap out the loud fan for
something a little quieter. With that in mind, an 80mm fan like the one we used
for testing would make for a good combination with the Thermalright SLK-900A.
