True to
form, this low noise heatsink falls in with the crowd of other low noise heatsinks in this
reference list, including the models from Verax, Zalman, Arctic Cooling, and others. We'll
have to jump forward and see what the final rise above ambient temperatures look
like before making a final decision on the heatsink.

The thermal test results speak volumes about the Spire SPA04B4 WhisperRock IV; the cooler
is first and foremost a heatsink designed for low noise cooling. While
I would have hoped for a slightly better set of thermal results from
the SPA04B4, it is in line with other low noise heatsinks of similar acoustic
output.
Given the close competition, it would be hard to decide on this model
over one of the adjacent heatsinks that can offer slightly better cooling
numbers, unless economics come into play. The Verax P14Cu is the prime example
of this; while it is equally silent, it costs more than this Spire heatsink
does.
In the end,
the Spire SPA04B4 would make an acceptable low noise heatsink for a
mainstream system where there is little if any gaming, or overclocking. There
are other heatsink options which bring better thermals to the table, but most
of those will also increase the noise levels slightly. When you shop
for low noise heatsinks, the choice is often a complex mix of price,
sound output and thermal performance, so study the results above before you make your
decision.
