The
Tocools Novasonic-AlCu design is very competitive - thrusting it right into
'performance cooler status'. It's worth noting that the Thermalright AX-7 was
used with a high-performance 38mm Delta fan, and is so far the
loudest heatsink we have measured to date. The Novasonic-AlCu heatsink uses a substantially smaller fan, and one which
is also significantly quieter. Let's jump ahead and see what the final thermal results say.

The final temperature stats paint a picture like this;
the Tocools Novasonic-AlCu is a substantially quieter heatsink that is able
to reach virtually the same thermal results as that of the Thermalright
SLK-800 and AX-7 which each used very large, and very loud fans. Given the
choice between Tocools Novasonic-AlCu and the Thermalright heatsinks shown
here the decision is a simple one; While the Novasonic-AlCu is about
2-3 degrees warmer, it about 14 dBA quieter!
Tocools have made a very strong showing with
their Novasonic line, and the new Novasonic-AlCu raises the bar even
higher. The company still hasn't come up with a good clip
that is easy to use (and maybe one day tool free?), but at least
this one didn't snap right off like the first prototype we tested
last year (a problem with the heat treating). With such a large heatsink as
this, I'm going to repeat what I've said before, and urge the company to adopt a clip which
is slightly more refined, and utilizes all three tabs on the AthlonXP socket A.
What we have seen thus far of Tocool's "Pyramidal Inside Cutting" technology
has been impressive. Bottom line, the Tocools Novasonic-AlCu is a performance heatsink
for the AthlonXP that can handle overclocking, or just about anything else. If you're looking
for a cooler that can cut the heat without splitting your eardrums with noise, this
is the heatsink for you!
