The
initial FrostyTech Synthetic Temperature Test peg the Titan CW9TB/SC as a middle
of the road Pentium4 heatsink that should be able to match the performance characteristics of
the stock P4 heatsink.

Just as
we predicted, the Titan CW9TB/SC
lands in the sub 40 degree rise above ambient range, which pegs it as a middle
of the road Pentium4 cooler. The results are pretty decent, though there are
plenty of other options available that would offer better cooling capability.
Ultimately,
in trying to sway the consumer with a polished base, Titan managed to damage
their product to some degree. As you already know, a heatsink is only as
effective as the surface area that actually comes in contact with the processor
core. The more domed, or uneven the base is, the more thermal compound is
required in order to bridge the gap.
Even though
we always test with good quality ceramic based thermal compounds, I still
consider a nice smooth base surface which is flat to be the priority -
and one which is significantly more important than translucent fans or
chrome plating. While the Titan CW9TB/SC is far from a poor cooler for
value-oriented P4 systems, it really doesn't offer the kind of performance it
ought to be capable of.
Bottom line, the Titan CW9TB/SC is a decent cooler,
and one which would be useful for cooling now value-oriented Pentium 4's, but it
really doesn't offer significantly more cooling potential in its current state
than the stock Intel cooler.
