Abstract: CJC66IC-A heatsink does not reveal itself until the fans' intake air reaches elevated temperatures, and once that happens, the full speed of the fan kicks in.

The initial FrostyTech Synthetic Temperature Test results look pretty favorably on the CJC66IC-A heatsink... at least in the high-RPM mode. Despite all that copper, the CoolJag heatsink fails miserably if the fans' thermistor doesn't receive the correct temperature data to initiate the increase in RPM.

For our tests, we ran the heatsink as it was to test the (low) setting. In order to test the full RPM (high) of the fan, we shorted the leads of the thermistor to simulate a situation where the fan was receiving sufficient ambient temperature data. Given that the thermistor is not in direct contact with the copper heatsink, it was not possible to test fan-speeds in between 1300RPM to 6000RPM.

Weighing in at full fan speed with a noise output of 59 dB, and with a sizable possibility for vibration, means that the CoolJag CJC66IC-A isn't exactly the best heatsink when it is the most effective.

At lower fan speeds, the CoolJag CJC66IC-A fails the thermal tests miserably, in spite of its fully copper skived base and fins.

Ultimately, it is only when the high speed fans kicks in does this CoolJag heatsink really shine, and push its way to the No. 2 spot in this list of reference heatsinks. In that instance the thermal performance of the heatsink is quite remarkable, but who's to say any heatsink with a 6000RPM fan wouldn't be equally blessed?

If I had to describe the CoolJag CJC66IC-A in one way, it would be with an analogy to Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde; when things get toasty, the CJC66IC-A's dark side certainly pokes through. When temperatures are calm, the heatsink is pretty low on the scale of coolers you'd want to have on your Pentium4 processor.
