Given that this is primarily an aluminum heatsink it is not all that surprising that the initial temperature results are towards the middle of the spectrum. Is it possible that the small patch of copper at the base of this heatsink can make that much of a difference to the overall thermal efficiency of the NW9F715CA?

In the final rise above ambient results the Evercool NW9F715CA shows us it is indeed worth considering. While it did come in just under the line set by the stock Intel heatsink, the differences were on the order of 1 degree. Noise levels were equally impressive for this heatsink, and bearing that in mind it would be a good cooler to consider for any stock (under 3GHz) Pentium 4 system where noise is currently an issue.

With a copper baseplate on the bottom of the heatsink designed to spread the heat from the processor to a larger area of the aluminum heatsink component, the designers have tried to improve thermal performance while still keeping the price point competitive.

This is not an overclockers heatsink, but nor is it really intended to be. While Pentium 4 cooling systems are generally considered to be quieter than their AthlonXP counterparts, there are still a good many coolers while create quite a whine. It is reassuring to note that the Evercool NW9F715CA not only cools pretty well, but also does so with a very minimum amount of noise.
