Looking at the numbers it would seem pretty
obvious that the more air the Coolermaster HSCV83 delivers the better the
thermal performance becomes. On the lowest setting, the Coolermaster heatsink falls towards the
bottom of this reference list, but what will the final rise above ambient temperatures
look like?

At the highest fan speed settings the Coolermaster HSCV83 X-Dream
heatsink ranks in at near performance cooling levels. It isn't quite at that level
mind you, but more of a high-end cooler per say. The noise levels
are pretty horrendous at that fan speed so with the flick of
a dial we can tune the heatsink down to more reasonable acoustic levels.
Adjusting the 80mm copper-coloured fan down to the lowest possible fan speed nets us
really sweet acoustic results, but the thermal capacity of the HSCV83 X-Dream heatsink
is also crippled. The temperatures at this lower fan speed are in line
with most 'low noise' heatsinks - but it is also pretty clear
that the X-Dream is really best suited at slightly higher CFM levels.
If you spend a lot of time gaming and
really like to take full control over your computer's cooling system the X-Dream
presents a good option in a pretty package. Opinions on the plastic fan
grill will differ, but the build construction, tool-free clipping system, and nicely
made 3.5" bay cover all point to a well made cooling system.
