The initial results for this heatsink are rather good I believe. Because the heatsink is equipped with a more conservative 4300RPM 'green' fan the noise is kept under control. Given the thick copper skived fins, and fin pitch it doesn't take much air to net good results.

There is often a fine line between a well designed heatsink and one which uses brute force to get the job done. A relatively compact heatsink like the Dynatron DC1207BMX, while large in the weight department, gets the job done with a minimum of fuss. The 70mm fan delivers enough air to move through the knife-edged fins and keep the heatsink cool.

Skive heatsinks have always done relatively well in tests because they are an efficient cooling design. The biggest limitation of the technology is the size and geometry of the fins themselves.

Ninety-degree angles are good, but anything else is just not technically possible with the current crop of skiving machines as far as we have seen. Fins are almost always capped off around 25mm in height too.

The DC1207BMX would do well in any environment where dust build-up is not a significant issue. Given the spacing of the fins, large amounts of lint or dust would be the one thing which could potentially clog this cooler up, and affect its efficiency. That goes for a lot of other heatsinks on the market, but here the sharp fins tend to 'catch' fine lint particles better. Like spring cleaning, it's always a good idea to clean out your heatsink at least once a year!

In the end the Dynatron DC1207BMX nets a higher noise level than the standard Intel P4 cooler, but also nets a better set of thermal results. With a little modification a larger fan could be installed easily that would add an extra level of cooling capacity. In its stock configuration, the DC1207BMX comes in towards the higher end of the reference coolers here, showing it has a lot to offer.
