Put copper, skived fins, and a decently powered fan together an the result is usually pretty good. In this case, the Coolsonic CS1662K comes in towards the upper end of the reference list, albeit far short of the performance coolers.

Faced against such a large list of heatsinks (we really ought to cut this list down to just 10 or so right?) the Coolsonic CS1662K comes in upper mid level. A respectable area to be sure, but not a heatsink we can call a "performance cooler." In any case, the CS1662K is a very good heatsink that should be able to handle a little overclocking here and there.

The full copper construction, and widely spaced skived copper fins work well together, making the CS1662K appropriate for any stock AMD AthlonXP processor on the market right now. Noise levels are not in the "quiet" range, but since we measured the heatsink at just 50.4 dB it is likely to get drowned out in an average case by either the power supply or videocard cooler.

The base of a copper heatsink can be the most important area of the heatsink as most of us are concerned. In that regard the Coolsonic was good, but not amazing. It was evident that the copper base had been milled flat, but then the entire surface was sanded which introduced some more roughness. As a final note, the clip would have been much more desirable if it was one which used all three tabs on the socket.

Bottom line; a very good heatsink but not a performance cooler - good for any stock AMD CPU, and for those who might want to get a taste of overclocking.
