Taisol have
been steadily making heatsinks AMD processors, and large OEM's for a long time
so there is a measure of reliability when one thinks of the brand. Performance cooling on the other hand
is not something that comes immediately to mind because we have never really seen any heatsinks catering
to the performance user markets. That being said, we were especially pleased with the results
of the initial synthetic temperature tests.
The Taisol CCP445172 performed
admirably, ultimately landing it near the top of the reference list as we shall
see in just a second...

Facing a large group of Pentium 4
heatsinks the Taisol CCP445172 manages to perform very well on the thermal
tests, just edging out the much smaller, and all aluminum (and heatpipe) CPUMate
DIA-10500 for the fifth/sixth position here. When temperatures are as close as that between
the Taisol CCP445172 and NengTyi XPC5000 you can pretty much consider them at the same level. Differences
in mounting, thermal paste, and heatsink-to-heatsink manufacturing would no doubt eat away that 0.6 degree
difference pretty quickly.
From a Starbucks in Las Vegas to our test lab
this heatsink has probably put on more Air Miles than most of you reading
this review. ;-) The Taisol CCP445172 offers an increase in performance over that of
the stock Intel socket 478 solution in the temperature department, but not acoustically. Despite most people's rush
to judgement about that stock aluminum coolers thermal performance, Intel did do a very good job at
making it quiet.
Very few heatsinks are able to even come close in the noise department, and
while that is a fact I wouldn't class the CCP445172 as "noisy." It is
moderately loud, but mostly due to airflow over the fins. Thermal performance is good, and with the volume
Taisol tend to produce being an ISO9002 registered manufacturer, I would expect this heatsink to competitively
priced as well.
