CPUMate DIA-10500 Heatsink
From All Angles |
|
The Fans:
The 15mm thick 70mm fan is
mounted directly to the side of the heatsink. There is no space between the fins and the
bottom of the fan which is somewhat against the grain. Most manufacturers allow
for 4mm of space to aid airflow. The fan hooks up to a standard
3-pin motherboard fan header. |
|
Bare Heatsink:
With the fan removed it is evident just how simple
this heatsink is made. There are the two sections of identical heatsink joined together with
tongue and grooved edges, the four holes drilled for the fan, and from the side
we can just see the two heatpipes sticking out. There are not fan shrouds,
mounting points, or much of anything else to the DIA-10500. Airflow
through the fins is good since they are only 45mm deep. Fins measure
just 0.6mm thick, 27mm tall, and are spaced 1.5mm apart. Each base plate
is a full 7mm thick. |
|
Side A: Each of the 5mm diameter copper
heatpipes swings out from the center of the base of the heatsink and
angles slightly as it goes up toward the front-top of the second heatsink.
The reason for this angle is that the front section of the top heatsink
receives more airflow than the center, so it makes
more sense thermally. The heatpipes at the base however, are directly over where the
processors heatspreader makes contact. The heatpipes are protected by the blueish plastic cover from
damage. |
|
Side B: On the opposite side of the heatsink we can see where
the two sections of heatsink have been joined to form one large assembly.
At the top and base of the image we can see four small aluminum plugs which
are filling in the holes drilled into the base for the heatpipes
themselves. Each hole is 5.5mm in diameter, and the
heatpipes measure 5mm in diameter. To keep the two sections of heatsink from separating,
the tongue and groove joint is crimped slightly from the outside. |
|
Heatsink Base: For an extruded heatsink, the base
finish of the CPUmate DIA-10500 is very good - it has been sanded smooth,
and remains very flat. The two heatpipes are shown coming out of the
left hand side of the base, and are protected
from minor dings by a plastic cover. The holes for the heatpipes are perhaps 1-1.5mm
below the surface of the base. The base measures 45mm x 74mm.
