The
initial results point to a heatsink with a
lot of good potential for its smaller size. The copper core imbedded in the base
of the heatsink can be a great asset if done properly, and a hindrance if done incorrectly. Luckily
for Spire, it looks as though they have been able to engineer a fairly capable
heatsinks with pretty good operational characteristics. We shall see for sure in just a second.

Coming in at just a little bit above the center line of
this list of reference heatsinks is what we like to see. The Spire 5R266B1H3
is a very cut and dry heatsink. The only trick it uses is a copper insert
to improve the overall thermal transfer from the processor to the rest of the
heatsink body. Simple additions like this keep the price of this heatsink down,
and make it good for just about any OEM application.
With a clipping system based on all three tabs on the
socket there should be no fear of heatsinks coming loose after socket failure.
The clip isn't tool-free (which would have been really nice) but it is a big
step in the right direction. Too many manufacturers opt of the least expensive
clip instead of something which will help consumers out in the long run.
Thermally speaking, the Spire 5R266B1H3 is a good
heatsink, but one which will ultimately show some signs of stress under high
levels of overclocking. If you are running your AMD system at stock, or
overclocked a little, this heatsink should be fine - but just remember it isn't
what we class as a performance heatsink.
