Now before we move onto the final rise above ambient temperatures it is important to remember that the Arkua 848X-6B is a 1U heatsink and not a standard socket 478 cooler. The levels of what is considered normal tend to skew down a ways with any kind of 1U heatsink, and that is especially the case with the 848X as we can plainly see.

There isn't much point in discussing this, so on to the rise above ambient temperatures.

The only heatsink in this list of reference coolers we are really comparing against is the Dynatron DC1206BMV which is a copper 1U socket 478 heatsink as well. The Dynatron has the benefit of an all-copper skived construction and that leads to performance gains which are evident over that of the Arkua 848X.

While we have traditionally been really impressed with the performance capabilities of Arkua's heatsinks and fin designs it appears that the technology is has reached the useful envelop with 1U heatsinks. With only a few 1U socket 478 heatsinks using active cooling known to use it is hard to draw definite performance lines, but from the info we have available to us at the time of this review the Aruka 848X-6B doesn't appear to represent the best possible solution for 1U socket 478 server cooling.
