Acoustic Samples: Listen to this Heatsink! For the size of the fan which is used on the Vantec CCK-7025 it produces a fairly conservative level of noise. Perhaps this is due to the fact that there are just seven blades on the impeller, or perhaps it is because the fan rotates at moderate 4000RPM. Sound Level Measurements: Listening to the actual noise a heatsink makes allows you to hear what pure numbers alone cannot get across. To further emphasize FrostyTech's reliance on cold hard facts when evaluating a heatsink, we also take Decibel readings with a sound level meter. These results may be higher than the manufacturer's listed specs, but then again these are real world measurements.
The stock Intel heatsink is among the quietest of the Pentium 4 fans which a good testament to the level of engineering which has gone into it. We measured the Vantec CCK-7025 with our sound meter under real world conditions and it produced about 51.4 dB of noise. This is above the stock intel acoustic results, but pretty good as Pentium 4 heatsinks go.
