Acoustic Samples: Listen to this Heatsink!

Large slowly rotating fans produce less distinct levels of noise than small higher rotating fans ever to. This, along with benefits in airflow is one of the reasons that so many heatsink manufacturers have opted for larger fans with lower rotational speeds. I know a few people around here who have made the switch to Intel chips simply because the cooling is less noisy. Heatsinks like the Spire 5F263 could help keep AMD in line for years to come with less noise as long as the cooling performance remains intact.

Sound Level Measurements:

Listening to the actual noise a heatsink makes allows you to hear what pure numbers alone cannot get across. To further emphasize FrostyTech's reliance on cold hard facts when evaluating a heatsink, we also take Decibel readings with a sound level meter. These results may be higher than the manufacturer's listed specs, but then again these are real world measurements.

With noise levels this low I think we can expect thermal performance to be mid-level or lower. It is really hard to design any heatsink for high-end performance let alone a low noise cooler like the Spire 5F263 with its simple extruded aluminum frame.
