GlacialTech Igloo 2310 Heatsink Review
GlacialTech manufacture inexpensive OEM class heatsinks of fairly standard design. There are no special fin designs, exotic materials or turbine fans. A simple aluminum extrusion and fan are complimented by a sandblasted finish and pre-applied patch of silver-based thermal compound. Retailing for about $20 a piece it is the pre-applied silver thermal compound which catches our eye most and knowing that the best we can hope for is just good thermal performance for the money. The only way to find the answer to that question is to test out the Igloo 2310 and find out where its strengths and weaknesses lay, so let's begin.
On a side note I would have to say that the clip used on the Igloo 2310 is one of the stiffest we have encountered in some time. A good stiff clip which exerts a lot of pressure on the processor below is both a blessing and a potential problem. If the clip puts too much pressure on the processor the chip could be cracked, or worse yet, the clips which hold the heatsink in place could become stressed and break off. While I don't think that would be a problem with this heatsink, it would be nice to start seeing data from manufacturers which indicates how much clipping force the heatsink uses.
