"The AMD Athlon CPU is one of the best CPUs in recent history for overclocking. This is mainly due to how easy it is for a guy to unlock the multiplier and change it to something higher. In order for one to fully understand overclocking, and what overclocking is, one must first understand how the speed of the CPU is set. Simply the easiest way to explain this is the motherboards bus speed (FSB) multiplied times the multiplier equals the CPU speed. On all current cpus the multiplier is locked so you cannot change it. So if you have a 500Mhz CPU then the multiplier is 5x and your FSB is 100Mhz. The only way to overclock the CPU, then is to change the FSB from 100Mhz to something higher. The problem with this is that Athlon motherboards usually will not go over about 110-120Mhz FSB"
