Sony is a very well known brand name producing almost every type of household electronic appliance ranging from radios to their prestegious ES line of audio products. Sony's venture into the digital photography market first started with their famous Mavica line of cameras. Later on, Sony followed by introducing their Cybershot DSC (Digital Still Camera) line of digital cameras ranging from a 1.3 megapixel model, the DSC-S30 to the midrange 2.1 megapixel DSC-S50 to the high end and feature rich 3.3 megapixel DSC-S70 digital camera reviewed here today. On first sight, the Sony DSC-S70 looks different from the average digital camera. It's a little bulkier than most and it comes with a Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar lens. Carl Zeiss lenses have always been at the top of the industry where lenses are concerned being used in telescopes, cameras and even in medical equipment for surgeries. Among other features that makes it stand out from the crowd include a large 2" TFT LCD screen and the use of Sony's unique LithiumIon and Memory Stick accessories which we will get into detail later on in the review.
