"Well, this is a tricky one but I can say that the WinME is not dependant on DOS anymore, it does need the IO.sys & the MSDOS.sys to boot, but it doesn't need the command.com. Try renaming your command.com's then reboot....
The system icons and other interesting images like dial-up networking has been borrowed from Win2000, but that's only a cosmetic feature. There are some invisible changes too! For example, it saves the regedit session, so when I rerun it, it opens at the same regkey where I left it..."
